10 Things to Do on Koh Samui

Crystal-clear water, jungle hills, local culture, and non-stop fun — all on one island. Here's what you shouldn't miss on Koh Samui.

01

Snorkeling Day Trip to Koh Tao & Koh Nang Yuan

Crystal-clear water, vibrant coral reefs, and a viewpoint that belongs on every traveler's bucket list — this is one of the best day trips you can do from Koh Samui. Board a speedboat in the morning and spend the day snorkeling among sea turtles and tropical fish around Koh Tao. Then make your way to Koh Nang Yuan — a tiny island where three white-sand beaches meet at a single point, creating one of the most photographed views in the world. Stand on the viewpoint and you'll understand why people fly halfway around the globe just for this. No dive certification needed — just a sense of adventure.

Tip: Book a speedboat package that covers both islands in one day for the best value.
02

Ang Thong National Marine Park

42 islands rising from the Gulf of Thailand, pristine jungle, an emerald lagoon, and a panoramic viewpoint that will stop you in your tracks. Ang Thong is the ultimate full-day escape from the beach, and one day is enough to cover all the highlights — kayaking through limestone caves, snorkeling in turquoise waters, and hiking up to the viewpoint on Koh Wua Talap. Choose between a comfortable big boat or a speedboat if you want to get there faster.

Tip: The park closes every year from 1 November to 15 December. Check the dates before booking your trip.
03

Explore the Island by Scooter or Safari Truck

The best way to really feel Koh Samui is to leave the resort strip behind. Rent a scooter and ride out to viewpoints, local markets, and quiet beaches — or join an open-top safari truck tour that takes you through waterfalls, temples, and coconut plantations. The road around the island is about 50 km, and going slow is half the fun.

Tip: Some roads climb steeply through the hills. If you're not confident on a scooter, the safari tour is the smarter call.
04

Pig Island (Koh Madsum) & Snorkeling at Koh Tan

One of Samui's most talked-about half-day trips. Board a speedboat from Thong Krut Pier in the south and head to Koh Madsum — better known as Pig Island — where semi-wild pigs roam freely along a white sand beach. Feed them, take photos, or just watch them wade into the sea. Then continue to Koh Tan, where vibrant coral reefs and tropical fish await just beneath the surface. Choose between a group speedboat tour or a private longtail boat for a more laid-back experience.

Tip: Half-day tours run both morning and afternoon — easy to pair with another activity on the same day.
05

ATV Jungle Adventure

Strap on a helmet and ride into Samui's forested hillsides on an ATV — one of the most exhilarating things you can do on the island. Routes wind through rubber plantations, muddy jungle tracks, and elevated ridges with sweeping sea views below. No experience needed; guides lead the way throughout.

Our pick: Lexi Samui ATV — a highly-rated local operator known for putting safety and service first. They run small, semi-private groups for more personal attention, and their routes are suited to all levels — whether it's your first time on an ATV or you've done it before.
06

Zipline Through the Rainforest

Fly between platforms high above the canopy in Samui's tropical rainforest, with stunning views of the sea stretching out below — something you simply can't experience from the ground. Multiple lines of varying speed and height, with trained instructors on every platform. After you're done, relax with a drink at the on-site café — and if you're up for a short walk, a hidden waterfall is just 5 minutes away.

Tip: Morning slots are cooler and less crowded.
07

Fisherman's Village, Bophut — Every Evening, Fire Show Every Night

Bophut Fisherman's Village is worth visiting any evening of the week — no need to wait for the walking street. Come at dusk and you'll find beachfront restaurants, boutique shops, cocktail bars, and a romantic seaside atmosphere. The highlight is Coco Tam's, a legendary beach bar that hosts a professional fire show every night at 7:00 PM and 9:00 PM — performers spinning fire on the sand with the sea as a backdrop. On Monday, Wednesday, and Friday evenings, the entire street closes to traffic for the Walking Street market, with street food, local crafts, and live music.

Tip: Arrive 30–60 minutes before the show to grab a beanbag on the sand. You'll need to order food or drinks to enjoy the show. Coco Tam's is open daily 12:00 PM – midnight.
08

Thai Cooking Class

Take a piece of Samui home with you. A hands-on Thai cooking class is one of the most fun and practical activities on the island — start with a local market tour, learn the art of Thai flavor balancing, then cook and eat 3–5 dishes in a single session.

Tip: Morning classes typically include the market tour. Afternoon classes focus more on cooking time.
09

Sunset Watching — Views You'll Only Find on Koh Samui

Two spots stand out above the rest:

Nathon Beach on the west coast — a wide, open beach with unobstructed views of the sun setting directly over the horizon, silhouetted against the ferries crossing in the distance. That specific combination of light, sea, and moving boats is something you'll only see here.

Big Buddha Temple (Wat Phra Yai) — convenient and just 15 minutes from Chaweng, this iconic 12-meter golden Buddha catches the last light of the day in a way that's genuinely stunning. A calm, easy stop with no need to drive far.

Tip: Golden hour runs from around 5:30–6:30 PM depending on the season.
10

Traditional Thai Massage & Spa

End every day the right way. Koh Samui offers everything from beachside massage huts at 300 THB/hour to world-class luxury spas. A 2-hour session combining oil massage, herbal compress, and aromatherapy is one of the best-value experiences the island has to offer.

Tip: Large hotel spas often run early-bird or weekday deals — worth checking before you book.

Koh Samui is more than a beach destination. Whatever kind of traveler you are, the island has something for you — every day of the year.
